||NAM — getnam.app Last updated: 12 June 2026
What ||NAM is
The name ||NAM comes from the Damara/Nama language — Khoekhoegowab — where it means hug. The two upright lines at the start represent one of the click consonants that make Khoekhoegowab one of the most distinctive and beautiful languages on earth. The name was chosen with deep respect for that heritage.
||NAM exists because human beings need each other. A hug — a real, warm, willing, platonic hug between two people who consent — is one of the oldest and most powerful expressions of care we have. We built this app to make more of those moments possible, for people who may be lonely, new to a city, going through a hard time, or simply craving the kind of warmth that a screen can't provide.
||NAM is a platonic connection app. It is never a dating app. That's not a technicality — it's the whole point. We want you to feel genuinely safe here.
The one rule that matters most
Every interaction on ||NAM is opt-in. Always.
A hug is only a hug if both people want it.
If someone declines your hug request — whether by saying no, by not responding, or by unmatching — that is a complete answer. Do not follow up. Do not ask why. Do not try a different approach. Respect it the same way you'd want your own "no" respected.
What's welcome here
- Genuine warmth and openness
- Honest profiles that represent who you actually are
- Curiosity about other people — their stories, their cultures, their lives
- Meeting in person when it feels right for both of you
- Using the Trusted Buddy feature to share your plans with someone you trust
- Reporting anything that feels wrong
What's not welcome here
No romance or sexual content — ever
||NAM is platonic. That means:
- No romantic advances, flirting, or innuendo
- No sexual messages, images, or requests of any kind
- No using ||NAM to find dates, partners, or hookups
- No content that could make another person feel sexualised or unsafe
This isn't a grey area. Anyone who crosses this line will be removed.
No fake profiles or impersonation
Your profile should be genuinely you — your real photos, your real name (or the name you go by), your real self. Don't pretend to be someone you're not. Don't use someone else's photos.
No harassment
If someone makes you uncomfortable, use the Report & Block feature. Full stop. You are never obligated to explain yourself to anyone.
Harassment includes: repeated unwanted contact, aggressive or threatening messages, following up after being blocked, deliberately making someone feel unsafe or humiliated.
No commercial use
||NAM is for human connection, not business development. No selling, promoting, recruiting, or soliciting — not in messages, not on your profile.
No scams, coercion, or manipulation
- Don't ask other users for money, gifts, financial help, or cryptocurrency
- Don't use emotional pressure or manipulation to get what you want
- Don't try to move a conversation to another platform as a condition of interaction
- Don't share or use information you've learned about someone to threaten, blackmail, or harm them
- Don't misuse anyone's location, meetup details, or Trusted Buddy information
Keep contact details in ||NAM until a meetup has been accepted
Don't share phone numbers, email addresses, physical addresses, or handles and links for other messaging or social platforms in a conversation where no meetup request has been accepted yet. Scammers rely on moving people off the platform quickly, where we can't help you.
Message content is automatically checked for this before it is sent. This works conversation by conversation. Once a meetup request has been accepted in a conversation, contact sharing becomes available in that conversation and stays available there, and messages in that conversation are no longer checked for contact information. Other conversations are unaffected.
If your message is blocked, we'll tell you, and the other person is told only that a message was blocked — not what it said. Repeated blocked attempts within a short period can temporarily restrict your ability to send messages; the restriction lifts by itself when it expires. If you think a message was blocked in error, email support@getnam.app and a person will look at it.
No doxxing or privacy violations
- Don't share another person's personal information — address, workplace, phone number, anything — without their explicit consent
- Don't share screenshots or private messages without the other person's permission, unless you are submitting a safety report to us
- Don't upload photos of other people without their consent
No hate speech
||NAM is for everyone. Content that dehumanises people based on race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any other characteristic has no place here.
Staying safe in person
Meeting someone in person is wonderful — and it calls for a little common sense.
Before you meet:
- Get to know someone through the app before agreeing to meet
- Use the Trusted Buddy feature to let a friend know who you're meeting, where, and when
- Share your plans with someone you trust, even if you don't use the feature
When you meet:
- Choose a public place the first time — a café, a park, somewhere with other people around
- You never have to explain yourself if you change your mind
- Trust your instincts. If something feels wrong, it probably is.
If something goes wrong:
- In an emergency, contact your local emergency services first — not us
- After you're safe, report what happened in-app or at safety@getnam.app
How to report
Every profile has a Report button. Use it. You won't get in trouble for reporting in good faith.
When you report someone:
- Your report goes directly to the ||NAM safety team
- The reported user is not told who reported them
- We review every report
- Where appropriate, we act — that may mean a warning, a suspension, or a permanent removal
You can also block anyone at any time. Blocking means they can't see your profile, contact you, or know you exist on the platform.
Child safety
||NAM is strictly for adults aged 18 and over. No exceptions.
Child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) of any kind is strictly and absolutely prohibited on ||NAM. This includes:
- Sexual content, images, or material involving minors
- Grooming — any attempt to build trust with a minor for the purpose of exploitation
- Sexual solicitation of a minor
- Sharing, distributing, or linking to child sexual abuse material (CSAM) in any form
- Any attempt to move a prohibited interaction involving a minor off-platform
- Trafficking or exploitation of minors
If ||NAM becomes aware of any child sexual abuse material on the platform, we will remove it immediately, suspend the responsible account, and report it to the relevant authorities and to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) where required by law.
If you suspect that someone on the platform may be under 18, or if you encounter any content that may constitute CSAM or CSAE, report it immediately — in-app using the Report button, or by emailing our dedicated child-safety address, childsafety@getnam.app. You may also report directly to your local law enforcement or child protection authority.
childsafety@getnam.app is our contact for all child-safety matters, including enquiries from authorities and platforms. Use safety@getnam.app for general safety concerns that do not involve a minor. Our full child-safety standards are at getnam.app/child-safety.
What happens when guidelines are violated
We aim to respond proportionately. Roughly speaking:
- First minor violation: Warning and removal of the offending content
- Repeated or moderate violations: Temporary suspension
- Serious violations (sexual content, harassment, impersonation, scams, threats, child safety): Immediate permanent removal, no warning required
We do not owe anyone a platform. If your presence makes others unsafe or uncomfortable, we will remove you.
Appeals
If you believe a moderation decision was made in error, you can contact us at legal@getnam.app. We'll do our best to review your concern fairly. We're not obligated to reinstate accounts, but we take appeals seriously.
A note on the ||NAM spirit
The people behind ||NAM aren't trying to build the biggest app. We're trying to build something true — a place where people who need a little more warmth in their lives can find it safely, genuinely, and without strings attached.
Every person on this platform deserves to feel respected, seen, and safe. That's the whole reason we're here.
Take care of each other.
